Marilyn Henderson

February 14, 1962 — January 9, 2024

Marilyn Denise Harmon-Henderson, age 61, of Midland, TX entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, with family by her side.

She was born to parents Irma Maulmontri and late Eddie Harmon Sr., February 14, 1962 in Midland, Texas. Marilyn graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1980 and received numerous professional certificates from Midland College and is licensed with the State of Texas as a non-expiring level Director.

Her career has been in dedication and service to children of all ages and their families. She started her career in education by teaching differently-abled children at Bynum School from 1990-1997, then worked with older children and teens at Midland County Barbara Culver Juvenile Center during the years of 2001 to 2010, finally with the culmination of her skills, education, and experience she realized her dream in 2011 when she opened her own child care facility, Day by Day Learning Center. Marilyn was owner and director for a total of 14 years (12 in the current building), she worked diligently to grow the daycare from an idea to a home day care to a fully fledged daycare center supporting families in her community. Of course, there were jobs in between these staples in her career to make ends meet as a single parent; but Marilyn was a true go-getter and sacrificed in order to make sure her sons and those around her were taken care of and wanted for nothing. To her children and many who loved her she was a real-life superhero and an example to live by.

She was married to Timothy Henderson in 2017 and lived happily until her passing. Marilyn is survived by husband, Timothy; sons, Jermaine Neblett of Houston (Cory) and Richard Duty of Midland (Adela) , mother, Irma Maulmontri; sisters, Danita Harmon, Gwendolyn Harmon, Michelle Bowers of Arlington (Everette), brother, Eddie Harmon Jr.; nieces, Renita (Lawrence), Macie; nephews, Joshua (Breanna), EJ, RB; great nieces, La'niah, Londyn; great nephews, Izayah, Larewnce Jr.; devoted friend and confidant, Gloria Mitchell; grandchildren, Amari, Mya, Adeline, Alyssia; fur-grand pups, E'Lynne, Rocket, and Fluffy; and a host of family, extended family, church and day care families, and friends.

Marilyn was a dedicated and active member of Goodwill Baptist Church where she served on Pastor's Aid, in the choir, and 007 (women's ministry). Outside of her service to the Lord, she and her husband enjoyed traveling together and spending time on the lake. A great pastime and Marilyn's greatest love was her family.

In life she was an epitome of generosity and love thy neighbor, she never met a stranger, and was consistently willing to spread hospitality and warmth. Marilyn made sure to teach her boys and those around her that love conquers all, have a strong work-ethic, be a leader, trust the Lord, and always make time for family. She loved the Lord's Prayer and quoted it often saying "thy will be done;" but her favorite scripture was Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
