Hazel Lucille Smith, age 69, went to be with her Lord on March 13, 2024. Born in Midland, Texas, on July 19, 1954, to Joe Smith Jr. and Charlene Faye Lewis-Brown.
Hazel's life was a testament to resilience, faith, and unwavering devotion to family.
Hazel was a strong, determined, and loving person. From an early age, Hazel faced many health challenges. She never allowed her struggles to define her. Instead, every obstacle she encountered became an opportunity for her to rise above. After everything she went through, she stood on the mountaintop.
Doctors once told Hazel she would never experience the joy of motherhood. Her two children are the greatest miracles of her life. She often spoke of them as her living colors, embodying her unwavering determination and strength.
Family was the cornerstone of Hazel's life. She was the glue that held her family together with a boundless love that knew no bounds. MeeMaw, as her grandchildren called her, was a mother figure that taught them everything she could. For those Hazel loved, she loved hard and deeply!
Hazel's faith was unshakeable, rooted in a deep trust in the Lord. She taught her family that if they would put their trust in God, they would never go wrong. Everyone looked to her for advice. She was always there to listen if you needed her.
Hazel loved life and also LOVED BINGO. She was a great cook and would often make her famous fried chicken for her son and his coworkers. Although she pretended to be dropping by to bring them lunch, her son knew her true motive was to ask him for some money to go play Bingo.
Hazel is reunited in Heaven with her father, Joe Smith Jr.; brother, Harvey Neil Smith; sisters, Linda Ruth Williams, and Rosie Ann Cooks; and grandson, Wesley Dyer.
Left to cherish her memory is her mother, Charlene Faye Brown; children, Patricia Ann Whitley and Isaac Jerome Smith (Samantha); grandchildren, Colby Smith (Katie), Ashley Smith, Iyana Smith, Zachary Smith, Michael Mills, Matthew Badger, Sarah Badger, Stephanie Badger, and Damon Polk Jr.; great-grandchildren, Malachi Smith, Madison Smith, and Makayla Smith; as well as a host of other family members and beloved friends.
Hazel leaves behind a legacy of happiness, determination, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her. Hazel Lucille Smith may have departed this earth, but her light will shine on forever in the lives of those she touched.
